Mango Shake Recipe (Aam ka Shake) — Thick & Creamy in 5 Minutes
A good mango shake needs only two things: ripe, sweet mangoes and cold milk. With a proper Chaunsa you do not need any sugar at all — the fruit carries the whole drink. Here is how to make a thick, creamy aam ka shake at home, and which mango gives the silkiest result.
Ingredients
- 2 large ripe Chaunsa mangoes, peeled and cubed (about 2 cups)
- 1.5 cups chilled milk
- 2 to 3 tbsp sugar (optional — skip if the mangoes are sweet)
- 4 to 5 ice cubes, or use frozen mango cubes
- A pinch of cardamom powder (optional)
Method
- 1Peel the mangoes and cut the flesh off the stone into cubes.
- 2Add the mango, chilled milk, optional sugar and cardamom to a blender.
- 3Blend until completely smooth, 30 to 40 seconds.
- 4Add the ice cubes and blend for another 10 seconds, just to chill and thicken.
- 5Pour into glasses and serve immediately, topped with a few mango pieces if you like.
💡 Tip: For the thickest shake, freeze the mango cubes for an hour and blend without any ice.
Which mango makes the best shake?
Use a soft, fibreless, very sweet variety. Chaunsa is the classic shake mango — buttery, almost no fibre, and sweet enough that you can skip the sugar entirely. Anwar Ratol works beautifully too and gives an intense aroma.
Avoid slightly fibrous or tart mangoes for a shake — the fibre catches in the blender and you lose that silky texture. The riper the mango, the thicker and sweeter the shake.
The secret to a thick shake
Use chilled mango and chilled milk, and keep the milk on the lower side — too much milk makes it watery. For a really thick shake, freeze the peeled mango cubes for an hour first, then blend; you get a near milkshake texture without any ice.
Blend just until smooth. Over-blending warms the shake and thins it out. Pour and drink straight away while it is cold.
Frequently asked questions
Which mango is best for a mango shake?
Chaunsa is the best shake mango — soft, fibreless and so sweet you can skip sugar entirely. Anwar Ratol is a great alternative for a stronger aroma.
How do I make my mango shake thicker?
Use chilled mango and milk, keep the milk on the lower side, and freeze the mango cubes for an hour before blending. Frozen mango thickens the shake without watering it down like ice does.
Do I need to add sugar to a mango shake?
Not if your mangoes are properly ripe and sweet. A good Chaunsa carries the whole drink. Taste first and only add sugar if needed.
